Long time no chat!
Today I’d love to share with you a fun little challenge which I’ve wanted to do for years, but up till now never had the chance to. That was till lockdown part 3 (?) struck us last week, where what better thing to do than to spend the day dressing up inside because there’s nothing else to do, I suppose. 🙂
What is the ‘1 Dress 4 Outfits’ Challenge?
Well, I’ve seen many variations of this challenge over the years, so to me it seems to be up to interpretation for however you’d like to make it work. The general concept is that you pick one dress or main piece, and try to style it in 4 ways within a single day. I’ve seen people either wear the outfits, or lay out flatlays/mannequin outfits.
I think the main challenge for me was to change outfit 4 times within the day – boy, was it exhausting to get dressed and undressed over and over!
I personally wanted to put together 4 seperate, unique outfits which were vastly different from each other, with varying ideas and colours in mind for each. My wardrobe luckily makes it easy to feel like there are endless possibilities for each main piece I own, however, there’s not much fun in 4 outfits with a slightly different pink blouse, huh? 😉
My inspiration to partake in this challenge is that I am selling this dress onto a lovely new owner, therefore, I wanted to give it a final wear before I say goodbye! And one wear was simply not enough.
So, I did many. 🙂
I actually really love this dress, and it’s been a special piece to me for many years. But I noticed I would never reach for it in my wardrobe as I hold so many fond memories of wearing it for my 21st birthday (I’m 25 now if that says anything ^^;), and kind of felt like no occasion would compare to that. So it’s time for it to make some new memories with a new home. We had a good run, Decoration Dream! Now go live YOUR dreams, sweet little lemon-coloured dress! 😀
The Main Piece – Angelic Pretty’s Decoration Dream JSK in Yellow.
Here is the piece I chose to wear.
As you can see, there are many lovely pastel colours and motifs to work with. The JSK design is incredibly versatile, with cute coloured bows sprinkled down the bodice and a detachable bow on the waist.
And just look at that bustle! This dress captures all the happiness that sweet lolita fashion entails, for sure.
Onto the looks!
Here is my collection of 4 outfits! Like I mentioned before, I themed each outfit with a different idea in mind, such as colour or occasion. What a difference a change of colour and styling can do for this piece! It feels endlessly wearable, this challenge certainly proved this much. 🙂
Yellow & Pink, Dreamy Chiffon Look.
JSK, OTKs, Cutsew, Headbow, Waist Bow, Bag: Angelic Pretty.
Shoes: Secret Shop.
Jewellery: Angelic Pretty, Chocomint, Q-Pot.
I’m admittedly still quite shy about wearing unnaturally-coloured wigs, but I wanted to prompt myself to put together an outfit which would capture the essence of the incredible sweet lolita looks of the 2008-2011 era which made me fall in love with the fashion in the first place. 🙂
Drawing from the soft chiffon sleeves of this cutsew, I continued this through the outfit with a chiffon headbow (which has the same lace as the cuffs of the cutsew, amazing!) and a detachable bow for the waist. Pink always looks so sweet with this dress, and the delicate nature of the chiffon kind of gave me ‘fairy’ vibes, haha. 😀 I think this would be the perfect look for a fun catch-up with friends, as it combines cuteness and comfort with ease. Cutsews really are just glorified T-shirts after all, hahaha.
Pink Glittery-Yet-Subtle Out & About Look.
JSK, Blouse, Headbow, Bag, Shoes: Angelic Pretty.
OTKS: Diamond Honey.
Cardigan: Princess Highway.
Jewellery: Angelic Pretty.
I wanted to push myself to tie in a less conventional combo one would usually see/wear with this dress. I recently received this gorgeous AP glittery pink heels, and couldn’t resist pulling together my other pink glittery bits and pieces for a refined, more casual look perhaps for a chill day of shopping (If I wasn’t in a state lockdown, I’d imagine HAHA).
It might just be me, but I think the combination of glittery elements topped with my giant head bow made me feel like a walking gift-wrapped package! Perhaps not as casual as my brain had envisioned, but I still really love how this turned out regardless. 🙂
Lemon-Coloured AP OTT Lavish Look.
JSK, Blouse, Bag, OTKs, Shoes, Headbow: Angelic Pretty.
Accessories: Angelic Pretty, Vintage, Chocomint, Handmade.
Pulling the most out of such a beautiful shade of dress with all the lemon-coloured accessories, I feel like the yellow really shines in this outfit! Admittedly, I did reuse one accessory from the first outfit – my sweet giraffe boy ring – but when you see how cute he is, you can surely understand how I couldn’t resist giving him another shot. 😉
Just really wanted to go big or go home with this outfit, and since I was already home…..Big twin tails will reign supreme eternally. 😀
Lavender & Yellow, An Underrated Combo Look.
JSK, Blouse, Bag, OTKs, Headbow: Angelic Pretty.
Shoes: Baby, The Stars Shine Bright.
Accessories: Angelic Pretty, Chocomint, Offbrand, Handmade.
Finally, a colour combo I was nervous about jumping into so confidently, but BOY am I glad I did because I think it really changes the whole dynamic of this print! 😀 Most of my outfits with this dress have had some sort of pink element matching with the big cakes printed on the dress, but looking closer I noticed how prominent lavender was too. I think it softens this design in a fresh new way, bringing out less in-your-face details which didn’t feel as strong otherwise – like the purple bodice bow and purple stars, cupcakes and bows scattered around the print. I almost feel ashamed that I didn’t notice the stars on this print till this day, so my purple star bag felt like a good way to honour them for my lack of attention. ;w;
Again, it was fun to play around with a unnaturally-coloured wig again too! I adore this pastel gradient wig a lot, it looks like the swirly icing you can see on the cupcakes scattered on the bottom of the print, hehe.
And a bonus, I matched this outfit with a coat too to suit the FREEZING weather we have been experiencing here in Melbourne. :’D

Mysterious Ghost Girl Bonnie-Jane Wants To Battle!
As a bit of extra fun, after receiving my favourite Drifloon hat in the mail earlier this year, I had dreamed up the perfect idea of “What would I look like if I was a trainer/Gym leader in a Pokemon game?”
Basically, it would be something like this. 😀
Thanks for enduring the very image-heavy post! Can you believe I have even more photos than this? :0
Which outfit is your favourite, I’d love to hear! Honestly I cannot decide myself, I like each outfit for different reasons tbh. 🙂
If you’re feeling particularly inspired by my challenge and would like to try it yourself, I would definitely advise you on some dot points to make it easier for yourself:
– Pick a piece that allows for you to explore versatility within your wardrobe!
I think the most fun comes from trialling new things that maybe you wouldn’t try on any other day when you get ready under regular conditions. It’s easy to pick the prominent colour from a print, but can you try something else? Does the rest of your wardrobe allow for you to try this out? A bit of pre-planning never hurts to make sure you’ll get the most positivity out of this challenge.
– Set an entire day aside for this challenge!
We had a hiccup at the start of our day which meant I actually didn’t get into shooting and changing till about 2pm. I think if you don’t want to feel like you’re rushing, it would be really enjoyable to go through this at a slower pace. I was worried we would run out of sunlight, so start bright and early if you can! (Or don’t live in Australia and attempt to do this in Winter, hahaha)
– Set up a tripod in a bright space.
I ended up with ~250 photos from this day, and I cannot imagine what cropping each and every single one of those would do to my emotionally…..so be sure to put your camera on a tripod so you can mass-crop and get on with your life. 😀
I only recently moved into my new house so I’m trying to find a space I like for photos, and as cute as this space was, I had to brighten the photos quite a lot as I was only lit from the back. If you’re extra, you can use a ring-light or studio lighting to compensate. I will definitely do this next time to cut back on time spent on post-production!
Thanks so much for reading, and for those who stuck around while I disappeared into dust – I appreciate you! I can’t make any promises about being a regular poster here again, but I have a lot of ideas I’d like to share which may pop up here in the near future. Being adult sucks because 24 hours is simply not enough time in the day to do it all, but I will try my very best to sit down every once in a while and write about what I enjoy. 🙂
Is there anything you’d like me to chat about? Anything you’d like me to share my thoughts on or any cool challenges I should try out? Or if you just wanna chat, that’s cool too! Thanks a bunch~
All the best!
